Top 7 Kitchen Display Areas
It’s officially Autumn (or Fall) and as the annual pumpkin displays fill our social feeds, we felt inspired to share a few elements that when planned into your new kitchen can make it easy to add seasonal decorations without adding to everyday kitchen clutter. Here are 7 perfect display areas you can plan into your next kitchen to achieve that styled look all year round. (With a bonus one thrown in at the end!)
- If you have a kitchen island, it’s likely to be the centrepiece of your kitchen already. Adding a minimalist or impactful display like a colourful flower arrangement will be the #1 thing that stands out more than anything else in the room. (Check out the image above) As the largest surface area of your kitchen, it’s also unlikely to take away from your useable worktop space.
- Extractor Fan hoods
can be made bespoke to your style, room size and requirements. At planning stage it’s easy to ensure your mantle area is deep enough to hold display items like candles or ornaments between seasonal holidays when greenery or garlands can also be used effectively. If you already have items you would like to display in this area, why not measure them and pass this information on to the design team.
Open shelving can sometimes be thought of as lost storage space; when in fact it offers a place to store items you may already have that are decorative, helping you style your room. Open shelves can also help a room appear larger as they are lower profile than top cupboards. They are however something that will need planned into your kitchen so keep it in mind during consultations with your designer.
- Corner display shelves can be an opportunity to create a symmetrical look if tight on space, while also offering a dedicated area (or three as shown here) for décor suited to your home.

- If you like the idea of built-in display areas but are dismayed at the thought of another area to dust; we recently created these modern top level glass doors with back-lighting that could also incorporate seasonal displays.
- At CNK Designs we are all about bespoke, custom-made kitchens and furniture that serve you and your family for decades to come. This built-in bookcase epitomises that ethos with its Farrow & Ball Smoke Green custom colour creating the perfect space for any kind of décor.
- Almost every kitchen has windowsills, so you hopefully
don’t need to plan them in but they’re an ideal location to display items that set your perfect tone. They can be used most effectively when they don’t reduce the light entering your kitchen.
- Our final thought on the best display areas to plan into your next kitchen, although it’s not necessarily for decor is the suggestion of adding a family communication display to the gable end of your kitchen. This becomes a place where you can slot important letters into and a calendar to mark important upcoming dates without cluttering your worktop space with notes and shopping lists.
As a side note, most of the autumnal décor above was sourced from a local shop to us called Stewart and Gibson Ltd, based in Ballynahinch, Co. Down.
